REAL ESTATE AND LAND USE SECTION
The Real Estate and Land Use Section of the Office of the Attorney General represents the Commonwealth with respect to much of the real estate owned and leased by the Commonwealth, such as colleges and universities, museums, parks, police protection, prisons, alcoholic beverage control, and military bases, as well as preserving the natural and historic resources of our Commonwealth through the use of conservation easements.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: (i) negotiating and drafting documents for and closing commercial real estate transactions and related matters (sales, purchases, leases with complicated parties and structures), (ii) familiarity with title, survey, corporate, and general contract matters, (iii) reviewing, drafting, and advising clients regarding conservation easements, and (iv) negotiating, advising, and closing public procurements (vertical construction preferable). Candidates should have a history of advising clients on transactional matters, with an emphasis on the ability to communicate well with all levels of understanding regarding legal issues. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well within a small team of professionals. The ideal candidate will have a good academic record and a minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience. The qualified individual must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
DUTIES: This attorney will work as part of a team providing legal services to agencies in the Commonwealth on a variety of transactional, real estate, and related matters. The position may work with any and all agencies and institutions of the Commonwealth during the performance of these duties. This position is located in Richmond and reports to the Chief of the Real Estate and Land Use Section. As with all positions, other duties as necessary or appropriate may also be assigned. Some overnight travel may be required.
